International Literacy Day - Today’s holiday is not silly at all. It’s pretty serious, and if you consider the illiteracy statistics right now, you’d be inclined to take special regard to International Literacy Day. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization established this day all the way back in 1965. This day focuses on the literacy of adults, communities and societies. Nowadays, it’s not uncommon to hear that there are developing countries with no educational facilities where children don’t receive any form of education, let alone a proper one. Places like this do exist, and it’s heart wrenching. Imagine the people who live in developed countries and go about their day-to-day lives too embarrassed to tell anyone they cannot read or write. As you can see, illiteracy affects everyone so today you should read how UNESCO has been promoting awareness on this deficiency and how you can help, in the smallest way possible. Pardon Day - If you ever get the chance to talk to me in person, I bet you’ll hear me say “pardon” more than once. It’s a habit, and I have no idea where this British behavior started and where it came from. Well friends, today is about etiquette. Since I live in a busy city, I’m not always confronted with the nicest people who have smiles on their faces and say “please and thank-you” after you hold a door for them. Some people take advantage of these courteous gestures, and it’s a shame. If someone asks you a question or tells you something that shocks you, don’t go around screaming “WHAT…HUH…WHAT’D YOU SAY?” Today, take my suggestions and carry yourself in an appropriate manner, especially if you find yourself getting slapped with a huge bill from your car mechanic. You won’t be saying “pardon” after you check out JC Whitney for amazing deals to keep your car as good as new.
