Checkers Day - Today’s holidays are two fold. First I’ll explain that the origin of the first holiday Checkers Day. It doesn’t have so much to do with the game than it does the name of Richard Nixon’s pet dog named Checkers. My fondest memories of playing this game remind me of indoor recess in elementary school. We would whip out the checkers boards and have one-on-one competitions. Oh boy, did they ever get intense! Most of the controversy centered around who would be red and who would be black. I always had to be red and still do. I have not played the actual checkers board game in years; however, I do tend to play online once and a while with friends.
