Checkers Day – Today’s holidays are two fold. First I’ll explain that the origin of the first holiday Checkers Day. It doesn’t have so much to do with the game than it does the name of Richard Nixon’s pet dog named Checkers. Consequently, the second holiday we’re celebrating, Dog in Politics Day, is reminiscent of the story when President Nixon went on to give a speech about his pet dog, Checkers. I’m going to talk about them differently and separately. Besides Monopoly, checkers is my second favorite board game. Since the game of chess is totally mind boggling to me, I find checkers so much easier to understand and win! My fondest memories of playing this game remind me of indoor recess in elementary school. We would whip out the checkers boards and have one-on-one competitions. Oh boy, did they ever get intense! Most of the controversy centered around who would be red and who would be black. I always had to be red and still do. I have not played the actual checkers board game in years; however, I do tend to play online once and a while with friends. I recommend you check out iWin for classic games like this and new ones too. Save 40% on discount checkers and chess board games and more when you use iWin coupons.
Dog in Politics Day – OK, so now we’re onto Dog in Politics Day. It may seem a little confusing, right? How and why on Earth would a dog be in politics? Well, it’s not that hard to believe. Last week I was watching one of my late night entertainment shows, and apparently, in a small town in the US, a family restaurant who stayed neutral in the mayor elections decided to nominate their dog for mayor. I found this so revolutionary and not at all ridiculous. Dogs are smart, well all animals are pretty intelligent (when they want to be), and they can make decisions just like anyone else. It’s not that hard to understand a dog’s personality and where he stands on issues. For example, if he’s loving and gentle towards all people, you know he’s a humanitarian who would fight for equal rights and freedom of bark (I mean speech). If my dog were to run for mayor or city counselor, we would never be short of food and sleep since I’m pretty sure that’s what my dog values most! If you want to honor your dog or pet just for being them, then make your way to Petco. Save 15% on discount pet toys, grooming, food and bedding when you spend $60 or more and use Petco coupons.
