October 8th - It was on this day in history in 1818 that two English boxers began using padded gloves.  I guess they both agreed that a knuckle in the eye or cheek bone wasn’t necessary. Ever watch a boxing match? As a child, I’d get really confused when two men would be punching each other’s lights out, but then hugging soon after. My dad told me that they were both exhausted and just kind of leaned on each other for a few seconds to catch their breath. My reply was that if they both cared so much about being tired and leaned on each other for support, they were obviously good friends and shouldn’t be fighting anyway. My guess is that when my dad couldn’t think of a logical way to reply, he wished he’d been reading me a children’s book or something instead. 1971 - John Lennon Releases the Megahit Imagine - Lennon knew he was destined for fame at a young age. He owned his first guitar at 17 when his mother bought him one. Julia, John’s mother, always encouraged his talents, unlike his aunt Mimi who always told him that his musical talents would never make him any money in life…hmmmmmm, guess she was way off, eh?  Lennon’s hit songs like Imagine and Give Peace a Chance were messages from his heart to humanity to reach out together and grab the possible…a peaceful world.  He had a lot of followers, and still does today. Whether you’re a fan of his music or follower of his vision, keep Lennon alive in your life by bringing him into your home. Find John Lennon memorabilia at Wolfgangs Vault for 10-20% off. Famous Birthday

Sigourney Weaver, 59 - There are two movies that stick out in my mind when I think of her: Alien and Ghostbusters. “When there’s somethin’ strange, in the neighbourhood, who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!” I loooooved that movie as a child. It was the first theater movie my dad ever took me to. He bought me a huge bucket of popcorn and a large pop - what a treat! Well, my mother certainly never let me drink pop, but it was our little secret…until I was up late from all the sugar.  Make it a movie night with your kids - trust me, they appreciate it even though they pretend it’s lame. Head over to Sony Style for DVDs for family viewing like Ghostbusters and more. And redeem exclusive Sony Style coupons for a discount on your purchase!
