October 24th - It was on this day in history in 1901 that the first woman, Anne Taylor, went over Niagara Falls in a barrel. I place her up there with the first skydiver. There is no way I’d ever do anything like this…unless I had go-go-gadget wings. But since I’m not meant to fly, I’ll keep my feet firmly planted on the ground. If you’re the adventurous type that loves gut-wrenching activities like skydiving, rock climbing and more, then make your way over to Sierra Trading Post for the right safety gear. Save 30 - 70% on climbing gear, helmets & more by redeeming free Sierra Trading Post coupons!
1939 - Nylon Stockings Go on Sale for First Time - What was worn before nylon stockings? I hope it wasn’t those wool stockings! My mother used to make me wear wool stockings in the winter when I wore a dress - they itched like crazy! I remember the awful feeling of having hundreds of bugs crawling and biting my legs. It was impossible to sit still! As a young girl, I swore that I’d never make my children wear wool stockings…EVER! Well, now that that repressed memory has been dealt with, let’s talk about nylons. I think they’re a sexy accessory that can add a little pop to an outfit. When you’re wearing something conservative, a sexy touch would be a black nylon with a single solid stripe on the back of the legs - very chic! For a full selection of control-top nylons, sexy hosiery and more, head over to Bare Necessities. And redeem exclusive Bare Necessities coupons for 10% off selected brands!

National Bologna Day - Today is National Bologna Day, the American version of Italian mortadella and it originated in the city of Bologna in Italy. Throughout time, the pronunciation of ‘bologna’ changed to ‘baloney,’ which is how people associate with it. Bologna or baloney, is most notably found in a baloney sandwich with mustard or mayonnaise. It’s a really inexpensive lunch choice to put in kid’s lunches (and adults sometimes love it too). Growing up, I had baloney sandwiches virtually every day that today, I won’t go near it! I was sort of at a disadvantage because around the time I was growing up, that popular commercial jingle by Oscar Mayer was released and hooked everyone on baloney (more than they already were). If you’re looking to celebrate today’s holiday, you can always go make yourself a baloney sandwich; however, I’m pretty sure it won’t be half as good as the choices you’ll have at Omaha Steaks. You’re all grown up now so it’s about time you start eating that way! Check out Omaha Steaks coupons and save up to 63% on gourmet meat and chicken dishes, smoked hams and receive 12 free burgers.
Pet Peeve Week - October 20th - 24th - I’d like to draw attention to this week’s major running holiday, Pet Peeve Week. Yes, we all have ‘em, and sometime or another we all tend to annoy the people we’re close to or just everyday people we come in contact with. Everyone has their own views and feelings toward certain behaviors and things that may or may not have any impact on them. Sometimes a bunch of little things add up and we form an attitude around it and it becomes a lifelong pet peeve. My 8th grade yearbook blurb listed my pet peeves and they included: “snobs, backstabbers and waking up early.” I can say that all these years later, not much has changed. I still get annoyed by all three things and have added more to my list. My biggest pet peeve right now: people who walk slow on the street, mall or wherever. Move it, people! Today, you should celebrate Pet Peeve Week by doing something that releases your frustration. For me that means reading. Check out Magazines.com for amazing low prices on your favorite magazines. Save $5 on discounted magazine titles and receive up to 80% off other titles when you use Magazines.com coupons.
