National Roof Over Your Head Day - Growing up, did your parents ever say, “if you live under this roof, you’ll follow our rules!” Well, my parents did and they always made sure I knew I was fortunate enough to have a roof over my head. I know that others around the world and in my own city aren’t as fortunate to have a warm place to come home to, and it’s disheartening. Since we are in the holiday season, this day might be a reminder to do some charitable acts and not to forget those who are by themselves during the holidays or have no place to call their home. I don’t mean to put a damper on your mood; however, it is a sentimental and emotional month, and we should try our best to remember those less fortunate than us. Now, as a break from all the heart-warming discussion, today would also be a great day to look at your “roof” or, um, house and see what you can do to spruce it up. Perhaps you could add some really cool seasonal art so you don’t have to buy tacky decorations. Whatever you do, check out Art Select for pieces that’ll really take a boring space to a whole new level. National Apple Pie Day - Yum, apple pie. It’s so delicious, comforting and makes you feel really good inside. If you didn’t know, apple pie is best served warm. Forget about serving it straight out of the fridge. No one really likes it like that. I’ll tell you what people do love - a warm crust and melting apple filling exploding out of it. Oh and topping it with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream doesn’t hurt. Oh man, I really want a slice right now. It’ll have to wait! Nonetheless, today is National Apple Pie Day which is really just another reminder to plan a great dessert in the upcoming weeks. Perhaps you have a few holiday parties coming up and need to make or bake something. Why not show up with an apple pie? It’s traditional, simple, and if you serve it the way I recommended, you’ll score huge points. Here’s one little tip: if you really are going to make an apple pie and have never made one before, make sure you use cooking apples. Yes thereĀ is a difference! Bramley and Granny Smith apples are both cooking apples. For everything else you need for the holiday season, including an apple pie dish, check out Oneida.
