National Bouillabaisse Day – Whenever I see or hear this word, I think of one man – Emeril Lagasse. You know, the BAM! guy. OK, well I used to watch his show all the time when I was younger. I swear the one dish that sticks out in my mind that he used to make was bouillabaisse. If you didn’t know, bouillabaisse is a fish stew or soup. The idea of the dish originated in Marseilles, France. Bouillabaisse is like a regular chicken, beef or vegetable stew. Whatever you’d put in there, just substitute it with fish ingredients like fish stock and a variety of cooked fish. A bouillabaisse or fish stew is actually pretty useful to make for a big group of people who may be a mixed group of eaters. Although not everyone loves the smell or taste of fish, I’m telling you this will win anyone over. Every Christmas Eve, it’s a tradition in my family and culture to eat fish. If you share this tradition on Christmas Eve or any other day of the year, make a bouillabaisse and it’ll be so easy for you. Throw a bunch of things in a pot and make it simmer for a few hours. No big deal! Just make sure you serve your bouillabaisse hot, no one likes cold fish. Check out Cooking.com for the essentials! Gluten-Free Baking Week (14th – 20) – Well, this is new, isn’t it? Out of all the food allergies out there, I’m telling you this one is pretty difficult to work around. Whether you know someone who has a wheat allergy, have one yourself or don’t know a thing about it, I’m here to tell you! In a nut shell, a gluten-free diet has to be rid of ingredients containing or deriving from gluten cereals. This could be any type of wheat. I’ve talked about how difficult it is to live with an allergy. I’ve never had any food allergies, and I still sympathize with people who do. Everything about your diet is forced to change, and the people around you might have to alter the way they cook for you or the food they serve at parties you attend. Now when you think of baking, there is that chance that a recipe could call for some type of wheat. Instead of choosing a gluten-free baked good that no one can enjoy except that person, you can still serve something tasty and just substitute the wheat ingredients. That’s what this week is all about! If you live with this allergy or any type of food allergy, check out Indigo Books & Music. Save 34% on health and well-being guides and allergy books and cookbooks on orders of $25 or more when you use Indigo Books & Music coupons.
