Make Cut-Out Snowflakes Day – Yay! This was my favorite activity as a kid during the holidays. I also used to enjoy making snow angels. Although I really hate the snow, snowflakes are beautiful; however, I just wonder why we have this depiction of snowflakes as having these whimsical and crazy shapes and designs. Every time I see a snowflake, it looks like white fluff! Oh well. Making cut-out snowflakes is a great activity to do with the kids to keep them busy while they’re off from school. Imagine how beautiful it would be to hang a bunch of snowflakes from a ceiling in your entrance or the kid’s playroom. What a festive sight that would be. Now that I think of it, it’s pretty hard to keep kids entertained for very long. I know how it is with my nephew. One minute he wants to watch a movie, the next minute he’s playing with his toys, and the next minute he’s off doing something totally different! I can’t wait till he’s older and can sit still for arts and crafts! Speaking of, celebrate Make Cut-Out Snowflakes Day by checking out Current Catalog. National Fruitcake Day – I hate to break it to you: I’m not a fan of fruitcake. Not because it’s so played out during the holidays. It’s more the fact that I don’t enjoy the taste of dried fruits in bread. It’s just not my cup of tea. And also because it’s lacking something else – chocolate! I have a rule that anything sweet I eat has to have some sort of chocolate in it. So if you know of a chocolate fruitcake, please inform me. Regardless, many people I know enjoy fruitcake for their own fruity reasons. It’s also very normal to give fruitcake as a gift during the holidays. Gift-giver: Oh here’s a fruitcake. Recipient: Wow, you shouldn’t have! Oh, the sarcasm. I also find it hilarious how gift givers regift fruitcake. How long can fruitcake be stored for is what I’d like to know because I’m pretty sure I have some fruitcake from years ago! Kidding aside, National Fruitcake Day is a reminder to start cleaning out those cupboards and closets and making room for your new stuff.
