1974 – Jaws by Peter Benchley Is Published – I don’t know about you, but the movie Jaws scared me to death. I had trouble getting into a regular pool after that film. But nonetheless, I don’t let it deter me from hitting the waves. Once I get out there amidst the crashing water, I’m smiling ear to ear as I feel exhilarated. The beach will do that do you – rejuvenate your senses. And if you’re a sports enthusiast, it’ll get your adrenaline pumping too. Famous Birthday

John Carpenter, 61 – He’s the director of horror movie classics like Halloween. What is this? Scare Flamingo Day or something? From a man-eating shark to a masked-psychopath…I’ll be sleeping with the night light on this evening. In high school, during the cold season, our soccer coach would make up do laps inside the school starting at 6am! Have you ever been in an empty school when it’s dark out? There’s no laughter, no bell ringing, just silence…and a long hallway of lockers before you. Well, on Halloween morning we were doing our laps as usual. I fell behind as I was exhausted so I was alone. When I turned the corner towards a new loooong hall of lockers, there he was standing at the end of the hall. Michael Myers! Of course it wasn’t really him – one of the girls was playing a Halloween prank on me. I started running the other way, and when I looked behind me, the Michael Myers figure began its slow and stalking walk towards me. I was so grateful to run into the other group of girls doing their laps! Anyway, good old Michael Myers wasn’t so brave when 15 or so cranky teenage girls were running after him! Ha! If you’d like to look terrifyingly realistic when it comes to costumes, head over to BuyCostumes for a huge selection of horrifying picks. Be sure to redeem free BuyCostumes coupons for a 10% discount on orders of $50 or more!

January 16th Holidays – What Do You Mean Today Is a Nothing Day? It Surely Doesn’t Mean You Still Won’t Get to Save! Enjoy 15% off at Dale & Thomas Popcorn!

National Nothing Day – What an inspirational day! I really feel like doing sooo much on a day like today! What could you possibly do on National Nothing Day? What are we celebrating on National Nothing Day? Well, I’m going to go for a long shot here and say – NOTHING! How can the inventors of holidays be so lazy and not think of a great holiday for today? Hmm. Personally, I hate ‘nothing days,’ so I’m not too thrilled about this holiday. Perhaps National Nothing Day is in a way telling us to take it easy. Do nothing. Celebrate nothing. Well, I disagree with the last one. Like say you wanted to have a party tonight or invite a few friends over. Don’t overthink it! The most fun parties are the ones that aren’t planned. The ones where you make do with whatever is in the fridge, order some pizza and have a blast. So National Nothing Day is in a sense a day to plan nothing. Make everything happen naturally. If you expect nothing and do nothing, you can’t be disappointed. I knew this holiday would come together! Now just in case you were going to have company or an unexpected party, what you can and should do is check out Dale and Thomas Popcorn. Save 15% on Dale and Thomas Popcorn flavors, gifts on orders of $85 or more when you use Dale and Thomas Popcorn coupons.

Appreciate a Dragon Day – Um, today is just getting weirder by the second. As I’m sure you’re aware, dragons are mythical creatures apparent in many literary works. I know you’ll probably laugh at me; however, I used to think dragons were real. That’s because they’re everywhere in pop culture from books to movies and especially video games. Does Dungeons and Dragons ring a bell? The first time I was introduced to a dragon was in that popular song by Peter, Paul and Mary. Come on, I know you know the song. Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea. Man, that’s all I remember of the song! I need to brush up on my children’s music. The other popular dragon that I’m familiar with is in the children’s book, The Paper Bag Princess, by Robert Munsch. It a classic book in which the princess saves the prince from the dragon’s captivity. I’m sure you’re wondering how you could appreciate a dragon if you have no knowledge or interest in these creatures. Well, you could always read up on dragons. Perhaps you could read or listen to those two works I mentioned earlier. I’m sure your child, nephew or niece would enjoy hearing something from your childhood. Or you can enjoy a bit of both holidays and check out iWin and do nothing except play games involving dragons. Save 40% on DragonStone, Mah Jong and other action adventure dragon games when you use iWin coupons.
