Saving by Trading – Guest Post from Monica of Mommy Brain Reports

I’d like to extend a big welcome to Monica of Mommy Brain Reports to our blogosphere. Monica is a premiere mommy blogger, discussing everything a mom might want to know. She creates product demos, writes about how to save money throughout the month and offers great advice on just about everything!

Today she is going to tell us how to save money by using amazing trade-in resources. Without further ado:

Saving by Trading!

Did you know that you can trade things to save some dough? I’ve found a couple of really cool ways to save a pretty good chunk of change, and thought I should share them with you!

  • Trading in your computer:

If you’re looking into purchasing a new computer for your house, you should think about trading it in! You’d do it with a car, why not a computer! Besides, why toss it in the landfill when a lot of it can be recycled!

Many of the computer companies out there will actually estimate the value of your computer and give you a trade-in value. A few that I know of are HP, Compaq, Gateway and Alienware. How does it work?

Well, say you really want to get a new Dell. You can go to their Trade-in Estimator enter the information it asks for on the form, usually all of the specs, and condition it’s in, click “Get Estimate” and voila, your trade in price will appear at the bottom of the list. Dell actually has estimators for just about any electronic gadget out there! Definitely worth a look! They’ll give you a pre-paid shipping label to mail your computer, or other gadgets to them, and if you’re sending a computer back, for a small fee, they’ll wipe your hard drive clean — though I’d still want to do that myself.

After trying it out myself, estimating one of my older Dell laptops, they’d give me $176 in trade in money. It’s not a huge amount, but it does help!

  • Trading movies!!!

Do you buy a lot of movies, or rent a few of theme every week? If you want to get your movie fix, but don’t want to spend all that money, you should definitely check this out!

I found a website called swapadvd.com which is actually a partner site with paperbackswap.com for book exchanges. It’s free to join, and free to use!

When you sign up, you’ll get a complimentary credit to your account, but in order to receive that credit, you have to submit 10 DVDs of your own that you’re willing to swap with other people.

From then on, for each DVD you send, you get one credit. You can then use those credits to request DVD from any other site member. You send in your good condition DVD’s and all you have to pay is the shipping which is usually under $2.00. It’s really that simple! You can then keep the DVDs or swap them again for other movies you’d like to watch. I know people who’ve saved up to $300 in just a few months!

Happy Trading!

National Speak up and Succeed Day – This is a very motivational day, don’t you think? National Speak up and Succeed Day is the perfect day to face your fears of public speaking and presenting in front of large crowds. If you appear meek and quiet, you may get ignored. If you speak with conviction and confidence, people around you will look at you differently and be inclined to want to hear what you have to say. It’s true! When Obama was elected president, the speech he gave was so inspiring. Everyone was talking about how strong and unfaltering his voice was. Today it’s important that you say what you mean and mean what you say…with PASSION! Allow me to clear my throat and speak up about deals at JC Whitney! Save 10% on Bosch, Goodyear and JVC car parts and accessories on orders of $100 or more when you use JC Whitney coupons.

Punch the Clock Day – Work! Work! Work! I bet it feels really good when you punch the clock after a long day of working and laboring. If that invention still exists in your workplace! I sort of feel at a disadvantage here because I never really got to punch the clock. I say we bring back the clock! Well, sure maybe if we lived in the 1950s. I believe only factories and grocery stores still punch the clock. It’s so interesting to see the changes in technology in the workplace. More technology doesn’t necessarily mean less stress. If you’re not tech savvy, this could be your demise. On Punch the Clock Day, I say you check out Lenovo for small or large business needs. Receive free standard shipping and handling on Lenovo ThinkPads and notebooks when you use Lenovo coupons.
