Little Known Ways to Save by Learning How to Make Cleaning Supplies

Ever wonder how to make cleaning supplies? You can – with things that are probably right at hand! Who woulda thought that all these years you could’ve been making healthier and less expensive cleaning products that actually work better than their retail counterparts?

As a child I used to watch my grandmother make tons of concoctions that made the house sparkle. I’ve tried to remember as many as I can to share some tips on how to make homemade cleaning products.

You will save A LOT of money (think about your weekly cleaning routine). Plus, you’ll be creating a much healthier environment with fewer chemicals. So, read on for a brief 101 on how to make your own cleaning products.

What You Need for Budget Cleaning

Not much actually! Just a couple of lemons, white vinegar, baking soda and any dish washing fluid you like. I personally enjoy using Dawn as it comes in delightful scents like Apple Orchards and is gentle on my skin. See? I told you learning how to make cleaning supplies would save you money!

  • Floors
Combine one cup of vinegar with one gallon of hot water. The hotter the water is, the more streak-free your floors will be as they’ll dry super fast.
  • Carpet
Before you vacuum, blend a 3/4 cup of baking soda with 2 tbsp corn starch and a 1/4 cup of your favorite scented talcum powder. Sprinkle this on the carpet and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Your carpet and the whole room will smell fresh and clean.
  • Windows
This is my fave on the list of how to make cleaning products ’cause it works like store-bought if not better! In a spray bottle, mix 2 cups of water, 1/4 cup of vinegar and about 1/2 a teaspoon of dish soap. You’ll get a streak-free finish with this especially when you clean in a circular motion. Think of Karate Kid as you do it: “Wax on, wax off.”
  • Bath Tub
In a spray bottle, combine 1/2 cup of dish soap and pour in vinegar until it’s full. Give it a little shake. Spray the entire tub and let it sit for about 2 minutes. Wipe in a circular motion with a cloth and rinse with hot water. Then stare at your reflection and smile!
  • Hard Water Deposits
Sometimes the tub or the sink has those awful stains caused by hard water deposits. A simple way to get rid of them is by applying vinegar or lemon juice and letting it sit until you notice the stain breaking up or disappearing. Rinse it away and you’re done.

There! Now you’ve learned how to make your own cleaning products. You can use the extra money saved to buy yourself something, that is, if you have any energy left.

Got any cool tips on homemade cleaning products for budget cleaning up your sleeve? I’d love it if you’d share them. Until next time, stay frugal!
