Go, go gadget savings! All you Inspector Gadgets out there, you might want to sit down before I tell you about the latest Seventh Avenue coupons – the excitement alone could make you short circuit.

But first thing’s first – where’s poor Chief Quimby? I hope he has a better hiding place because the coupons will self-destruct on April 30. Until then, though, everyone can get 10% off at the Sitewide Sale! (Yup…even evil Dr. Claw. Sorry!)

The only thing you might need Penny’s or Brain’s help on is narrowing down all the things you’ll want to buy. There are tons of really neat gadgets like these:

  • LP 2 Flash Digital Conversion Turntable by Ion Audio - Blow the dust off those vinyls & get ready to boogie when you convert the songs & put them on your MP3/CD player
  • Tracker IV Metal Detector by First Texas - Playing the lottery each week isn’t the only way to strike it rich! Look for buried treasure with this metal detector
  • Digital Pen by Augen - NKOTB, clearly this is ‘the write stuff’ because everything you write gets stored in digital format so you can edit it later
  • Night Vision Monocular by Night Owl Optics - Seeing is believing & seeing in the dark is believing that monsters are hiding in your closet…(I mean aren’t…I mean….Oh no!!!)

Take a stroll down Seventh Avenue with me, and together let’s pick up some fun big-kid toys!

Frugal Shopping: How to Shop Vintage & Make the Most of Your Fabulous Finds

I don’t know about you, but shopping vintage is my most favorite thing to do. Not only because you can get loads of clothes for a very low price, but because it’s a treasure hunt! Plus, you learn how to dress modern vintage with every visit. You can find some great designer items plus put together outfits you know no one else will have.

Yes, when you’re buying vintage you’re already being frugal, but I wanna get fabulously frugal. Thank goodness for Melanie from Common Cloth. She has some serious tips on how to be frugal and fun when you shop vintage clothes.

Take a look at some of Melanie’s tips on how to shop vintage and save:

Buying Vintage Silver Jewelry

You can usually find unique silver jewelry at vintage shops and thrift stores for a really low price. And the fun part is sprucing your outfits up with unique jewelry which gives ensembles more value than other beaded or plastic pieces. Usually all you need to make old jewelry pop is a little silver polish. This is exactly how to make the most of shopping vintage.

Buying Shoes

You can always find a cute pair of Mary Janes for less or distressed-looking boots that take your ensemble up a notch. Not sure about longevity? Take your new pair to a local shoemaker and have the heel or sole changed. A little love goes a long way!

Buying Vintage Denim

Whether you’re looking for skinny jeans, distressed jeans, dark jeans or more, a vintage store is where you’ll have tons of choices to shop vintage clothes and denim. Plus, older denim usually has more durability and lasts longer – get more and pay less. I like the sound of that.

Buying Leather

Leather lesson #1: leather gets better with age. The more leather is worn and ages, the more interest and texture it gains, giving it an edgy rock-and-roll appearance. Leather jackets in blacks or brown are usually in abundance at most vintage stores, and they’re always in style.

Buying Out of Season

When you’re looking for a warm winter coat, shop at a vintage shop in the summer time. And for cute floral dresses in spring, shop during the fall or winter. Just like other retail stores, merchandise costs rise with the season, so be frugal and shop out of season. You’ll be the first one to look cute when winter rolls around!

Learning how to dress modern vintage and save even more on already-great deals has been fun! Again, a special thanks to Melanie for her generous tips on how to shop vintage.
