July 9th - Today, we’ve got a lot of celebrity birthdays. But before we get to them, I’d like to pay tribute to Italy…

2006 - Italy Wins the World Cup 5 - 3 vs France - So they didn’t win the Euro this year. But who needs the Euro when you can have the WORLD? I remember this day, my father got so excited when Italy scored their first goal that he jumped so high his knuckles hit the ceiling…stucco ceiling. As debris was falling onto the ceramic floor of our basement, I looked towards my mother for her reaction. Instead of yelling at my father for breaking our ceiling, she looked at his knuckles, which weren’t a pretty sight at all. But you try to convince my father that he needs stitches when Italy’s playing for the World Cup. He still has scars until this day, but our ceiling is intact. If you’re looking for jerseys or memorabilia to remember this day, head over to Eastbay. Use our free Eastbay coupons to save 20% on team jerseys & fan gear.

Famous Birthdays

Fred Savage, 32 - I remember feeling heartsick for Kevin Arnold when he had that HUGE crush on Winnie Cooper. I loved the way the “older Kevin” would narrate his own life and describe to me what was happening and what he learned from it. I used to look forward to every episode. In fact, I bought the DVD set. You can find The Wonder Years DVDs at Sony Style. Use our free Sony Style coupons to get your DVDs and videos for less.

Courtney Love, 43 - Why am I thinking of a coupon for red lipstick? Bright red lipstick that smudges easily? Hmmmm. Well, I’ve got waaaaaay better than that. I love that Courtney can play the guitar so well. That’s why I’m gonna give you our Instrument Pro coupons! Head over to Instrument Pro and use our free voucher to save 10% on any guitar or instrument!

Tom Hanks, 52 - This guy has to be THE most talented actor, in my eyes. His roles in films like Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile and Cast Away completely blew me away. Some people didn’t like Cast Away much, but I thought it was so realistic. The fact that he became best friends with his Volleyball, William, was priceless. Seriously, he had to talk to someone, I think it kept him sane.

March 4th - This Day in History - Turn Around, Bright Eyes…

March 4th - The Month of March starts to chug along like only it knows how. Did it come in like a lion where you are, or a lamb?

Either way, This Day in History saw some pretty amazing events. I recommend you take a moment to reflect on the kind of thing that you could accomplish today, if you really put your mind to it.

1275 - Chinese Observe Total Eclipse of the Sun - Chinese astronomers were amazed at this incredible celestial occurrence. Can you imagine the shock felt by Bonnie Tyler, 708 years later, when she experienced a Total Eclipse of the Heart? Revisit one of the world’s great power ballads with 5% off the Bonnie Tyler back catalog at Sony Style.

1493 - Columbus Returns to Spain - After only a few months in the New World, Columbus returned to Europe with tales of his discovery. He was all, ‘Oh my god, you totally have to check this place out…it’s like, awesome!’ and they were all, ‘Yeah, right! America is so old news. The Vikings were there like, 500 years ago, Chris. Get with it, man.’

Famous Birthdays

  • Knute Rockne, 1888 - The greatest football coach who ever lived led Notre Dame to the National Championship 6 out of the 13 years he was there. Even if you aren’t a member of the Fighting Irish, you can look the part with 20% off college athletic clothing at Eastbay.

February 16 - This Day in History - The Golden Boy & The Brat

February 16th - Ahhh…the weekend. Saturday is a day for both maxing and relaxing. While you kick your feet up wondering how best to spend your leisure time, take a moment to see what was up back in the days of yore.

1923 - King Tut’s Tomb Opened - The lengths some men will go to find a bargain is incredible. But you don’t have to dig up graves to get affordable gold - save 10% at Limoges Jewelry. The best part is that Limoges products come with a guarantee, not a fatal curse born in the depths of hell.

1937 - Nylon Patented - First used in toothbrush bristles, nylon became famous as the affordable alternative to silk in women’s stockings. It’s generally believed, however, that nylon reached a fashion peak in the 80s with parachute pants. Today, no one uses nylon better than NASCAR - save 10% on a Mark Martin jacket at the NASCAR Superstore.
