Jason Alexander, 49 - Remember hyperactive, paranoid George Castanza from Seinfeld? He was great! But poor George was always a little insecure about his hair loss. There were many episodes when he’d wear a hat he thought looked cool, but that Elaine was fast to laugh at. Or he’d wear a wig with confidence, only to have Elaine rip it off his head and toss it out a window when she thought George was becoming too confident. And then there were other episodes when he’s try new creams that…again…Elaine would tell him smelled awful. Poor George! There are shampoos that help stimulate new hair growth in men and women. They don’t make your nose wrinkle with distaste, but actually have pleasant scents. You can find such shampoos and conditioners at Beauty.com for less. Use our exclusive Beauty.com coupons for $10 off purchases of $60 or more.

‘Summer Brain’ is what my friends and I called the condition we had during the first week back to school. Since we read more teen fashion/beauty magazines than classic literature, it was quite the adjustment to go straight into Shakespearean plays. Indeed, our minds felt rustier than the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz.

alibris.jpgYes, there are some really addictive reality shows out there, too, like The Mole and Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency, but you really should take a moment out of your busy schedule to read a good book and feed your mind.

Now for some motivation! Here is a bushel full of free Alibris coupons valid until September 15:

  • $2 off Orders of $20+
  • $4 off Orders of $40+
  • $6 off Orders of $60+
  • $8 off Orders of $80+
  • $10 off Orders of $100+
  • $15 off Orders of $150+

And here’s one more Alibris offer, but it expires earlier on August 20:

  • $5 off Orders of $50+

Of course you can use the coupons toward purchases of movies and music, but look for these challenging books that’ll help make the transition back to school easier for you:

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking
Psychology joins neuroscience in an attempt to uncover the mysteries of human thought

Women & Money: Owning the Power to Control Your Destiny
A guide to help you take the reins of your financial future

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose
See the bigger picture & strive towards greater self-actualization

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change
Become the person you’ve always wanted to be

March 21st - This Day in History - Spring Cleaning Begins & Dust Bunnies Can’t Hide Under the Rugs Anymore - Shop at Plow & Hearth for 10% off to springify your home & garden

March 21st - Alright! Bust out the brooms, dusters and vacuums. Open the windows for air circulation. Store away your winter clothes and hang up the colorful wardrobe again. Today we’re gonna clean, organize and decorate. Get all your home decor and storage helpers at Plow & Hearth for 10% off. But before you head off, let’s feed the brain first:

1980 - Season Finale of Dallas - On the last show, J.R. was shot by an unseen assailant. Hence, the famous phrase: “Who shot J.R.?” This show had it all - deceit, betrayal, star-crossed lovers, power struggles - must be why it was one of the longest running shows in prime-time television history. I think it also had something to do with Bobby Ewing being soooooo good lookin’!

1984 - NHL Owners Passed Infamous Anti-Celebrating Rule - I wonder how this new rule was explained to hockey players. “Now boys, we have absolutely no problem with you raising your hand added by a yelp of victory when you score a goal, but please, leave it at that. No dancing…or riding the hockey stick like a horse. Just score, high-five the air and smile!” If you’ve got a passion for hockey and can put up with a thousand rules - one including how to celebrate a goal - then get your gear at ShopNHL.com for 10% off.

Famous Birthday:

Kevin Federline - He turns 30 today…that’s nice. Now on to Britney - she seems to be comin’ back full force. So she made a few bad decisions in life (Kevin being one of them). She’s still a young millionaire with tons of bright days ahead of her. Learn more about her or listen to her music by visiting Alibris.com. Get DVDs, CDs and books with free shipping when you spend $49 or more.

Girl Scout Day - Yeah, I was a fan of Girl Scout cookies, too. Actually, I was a Girl Scout, and I think I ended up eating most of the boxes myself. Oops. March 11 - This Day in History - Romeo and Juliet Tie the Knot and Basketball Makes Its Debute

March 11th- Personally, I love March 11th because it’s 10 days away from SPRING! Soon I’ll hear birds serenading me as I bask in the warm rays of the sun, with SPF45 on of course. I tend to burn, very easily, especially on the ridge of my nose. Hence, I smear on the good stuff for protection. I recommend you do too. And if you’re one of those people who think you have to burn once to get a base…then you’ll have time to learn a few things, since you’ll be laying down for a few days covered in aloe cream. Ha ha ha BURN!

1302 - Romeo & Juliet’s Wedding Day, According to Shakespeare - If only Romeo’s friend delivered the message to him on time, he would’ve known that Juliet wasn’t dead, only sleeping. If they had express mailing in those days, this all could’ve been avoided. Come to think of it, express mailing would still only consist of the fastest horse in the stable. Oh darn! Do you suddenly have the urge to watch Romeo & Juliet like I do? Get the DVD on sale plus other movies, DVD players, televisions and more at Sony Style for 5% off almost everything.

1850 - 1st Female Medical College Opens - Although they were laughed at for some time and hardly taken seriously, women began to study medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. These women inspire me. Against all odds they held their heads up high and focused on their goals. All I can say is I’m glad I wasn’t there…surrounded by scalpels and scissors - I pity the fool that would make fun of me!

1892 - First Public Basketball Game (Springfield, Massachusetts) - According to Wikipedia, the YMCA school introduced basketball to students as a means of helping them keep in shape. Many students picked up the game fast and became great players, so on this day in history, the first public game was played. If you feel like takin’ it to the hoop sometime, get all the gear you need at the NBA Store. Pick up shoes, jerseys, wrist bands and everything else you need with 15% off.

Famous Birthdays

Thora Birch, 26 - This beautiful blonde was in the following films: Hocus Pocus, Now and Then, Alaska, American Beauty and Ghost World. You can own these great flicks by visiting Alibris where you get free shipping when you spend $49 or more. Her name (Thora) is the feminized version of Thor, which means God of Sky and Thunder. It’s funny how well that name represents her. The sky can be beautiful and magical, but give it the right ingredients and it’ll open a can of whoops! As I was saying…she also has a Blue Belt in karate. Hiya!

March 5th - This Day in History - Those Magnificent Green Men in Their Flying Machines

March 5 - The weather’s so funny in March…one day it snows, then it rains…jacket selection demands careful consideration at this time of year. As do these events from time gone by.

Slip off your coat and stay a while, won’t you?

1936 - Spitfire Flies For the First Time - I’m a total plane junkie, and the Spitfire might just be the sexiest thing ever to take flight. There aren’t many Spits left, but you can still get your fill of dogfighting - without the danger of actual, you know, fighting, thanks to Viator. Redeem the free coupon and get 7% off the Top Dog Air Combat adventure. Just don’t call yourself Maverick…it’s so played. (Plus it’s my call-sign.)

1979 - Sensors Detect Gamma Ray Burst in Space - To astronomers, this event signaled the last-gasp of the N-49, a dying supernova. But, for the rest of us, it signaled something far more momentous - the birth of The Incredible Hulk! Whatever you do, don’t make him angry! You will not like him when he’s angry!

Famous Birthdays

  • John Coke, 1536 - The English politician enjoyed minor fame in the Parlaiment of Warwick, but his name has come to mean more for it’s association with a latter-day soft drink - not unlike his contemporary in the British government, Alistair Sunny D.
  • Rex Harrison, 1908 - ‘Just you wait, ‘enry ‘iggins, just you wait!’…what, you haven’t seen My Fair Lady? Have you no culture?! It’s not to late, Alibris has great deals on classic films on DVD.
