History
Thomas G. Stemberg founded Staples Inc. in 1986 out of necessity. Not wanting to depend on small stores for product availability and hours of operation, he decided to establish an office supply superstore. In just a decade’s time, Staples Inc. accumulated a store count of 500!
Staples Inc. continues to grow with new stores and acquisitions of established office solution retailers such as Quill Corporation, Medical Arts Press and Office World. In 1997, Staples Inc. purchased the naming rights of a sports arena in Los Angeles. Staples Center is now the home of the Lakers, Clippers, Sparks, Kings and Avengers.
One major factor for Staples Inc.’s success is their memorable advertising. Their first slogan “Yeah, we’ve got that” was succeeded in 2003 by the now famous “That was easy.” And in 2005, the company further developed that slogan with their Easy Button, a real product as seen in their commercials.

Staples Inc.’s headquarters is located in Framingham, Massachusetts. They have presence in 21 countries, operating 2,000 stores across the world.
Staples can also be found in all Ahold’s Stop & Shop Supermarkets, Giant Food and Tops Friendly Markets. These store-within-store locations provide customers quick access to school supplies and office products.
Subsidiaries
The company is known as Staples Inc. throughout various parts of the world. However, they operate as Officenet in Argentina and Brazil, and as Staples Office Depot in Canada.

Charity
In 2002, Staples Inc. established Staples Foundation for Learning to contribute to non-profit organizations such as Boys & Girls Club of America, Ashoka, Earth Force and Initiative for Competitive Inner City. Environmental Responsibilities
Staples Inc. is a top 25 of EPA’s Green Power Partner. They have launched their own Staples brand, which offers products that feature green materials.

A few days ago, I saw a ridiculous movie called The Host. Add another sea-monster flick to the vault. It starts off with two scientists - one who’s pressuring the other to pour hazardous chemicals down the drain and one who complies with the foolish request.
Of course, the result of this massive pollution leads to the creation, growth, and mutation of a clumsy-looking monster. Although the entire movie was more comedic than expected, a serious message to take from it is this: take care of the earth and don’t pollute.
